Padded bag for directional board

I'm looking for any recommendations on a padded board bag for my kiting surfboard.

I use single board bags ,cheap ones for around home. Saves the boards from damage in the bk of the pickup. For travel I use ones that will fit my kites and wetsuit also plus Misc. items for weight limit . Any brand /cheap for general use ,2 liquid force bags ,1 Epic bought new at $50. 2 more I got at swaps for $20 . Dakine makes some great double travel bags

Yes, and for travel you can get a sheet of rigid foam insulation from home depot and cut out pieces for the top and bottom of the board for extra padding/protection.

I'd also say, if you can, check the boards before leaving the airport. Damage claims go better to you start them right then and there with pics. (I'm usually in a hurry and unpacking the boards in not realistic).

For regular day to day i like creature bags, though i have a bunch of dakine bags that are fine, just not nearly as nice

For travel ive got a multi dakine bag with wheels, couple of 'em actually, that i pad each board with bubble wrap. I like the suggestion to use foam, but havent tried.

Personally, i dont lose much sleep over the bags. IMO, boards get dings and its part of owning them. Ive noticed that the pointy parts on the noses and tails tend to need repair due to contact wear more often than i get dings.

....Just sayin', in case they seem like 'delicate snowflakes'

I picked up a Slingshot 6' surfboard bag for $35 and have used it to fly my `19 Mixer and Convertor boards all over hell's kitchen without any dings. It has pretty typical padding, and I sometimes slide a wetsuit over the board but otherwise the board is bareback - I wouldn't dare to ship my carbon foilboard this way, mind you. They no longer seem to offer this bag (looks like I got a screaming deal), but similar DaKine bags abound on eBay for under $100.

I’ve used pipe insulation around the rails, nose, and tail on my boards for years and have never had any issues at all after many dozens of long haul flights, ferries, and shipments. Mine go inside a golf bag as well, but the rails are where I’ve seen the most damage for associates. The other common source of damage is putting boards in too small of bags. It creates weird angles and leverage points and compresses the padding.

My MO when I travel is to put 2-3 boards into individual padded day bags, then stuff them inside my double surfboard bag. It's ~7', so it's easy to stuff several little directional kite surfboards in there. Stuff some kites, booties, wetties, etc., in the ends and off we go...

Then you have day bags for daytrips whenever you get where you're going.

And... +1 for checking your boards at the airport!

For daytrips close to home, I just use single padded boardbags (a la dakine, FCS, whatever) to protect boards in the back of the truck. Cool

I duct tape a Liquid Force "Kite fish" on each side of my nice strapless surfboard, and run it through baggage twice at each end of the trip. The product of which, turns out to be a fine silica/polystyrene wine that may not actually have FDA approval.

The "Kitefish" boards are actually resuable, and can be kited either at the destination or post fermentation on the return trip. The strapless nice surfboard board must be replaced with another "cobra factory" product prior to its desired use.
